Exact price settled before work · We pick up 24/7

New garage door installation is worth a look when fixes keep stacking up or several sections are damaged. Manzanita measures the opening, headroom and side room, then walks you through styles, materials and insulation. The new door goes up on new springs sized to its weight, new rails and rollers, and fresh seals to keep out sand and damp.

When a Whole New Door Makes Sense

  • Dents, cracks or rust have spread across more than two sections
  • Repairs keep coming back on the same door
  • The maker no longer offers a matching section
  • Wood panels are split, warped or soft to the touch
  • Drafts, sand or water get in even with new seals
  • The garage has become a workshop or gym and needs insulation

From Measure to Final Test

  1. Measure the opening and the space around it. Headroom, side room and the depth of the garage decide which track and spring layout will fit.
  2. Pick style, material and insulation. We show what suits the opening and explain the trade-offs in upkeep and noise.
  3. Take down the old door with tension released safely. Springs are unwound first, then the rails and sections come off.
  4. Hang the sections, rails and springs. Each section is leveled, and the springs are sized to the weight of the new door.
  5. Balance the door and hook up the opener. The door should rest halfway up without drifting before the motor is connected.
  6. Check the seals and the safety reverse. The bottom seal must meet the floor evenly, and the opener must reverse on contact.

Parts and Options

Materials. Steel is the most common choice and needs little upkeep. Wood looks warm but needs refinishing, and composite gives a wood look with less care. Aluminum and glass doors suit modern homes and bring in light.

Insulation. A single-layer door is light and simple. Insulated sections are stiffer and quieter, and they help when there is a room above the garage or a workshop inside.

Windows. A row of windows in the top section adds daylight. Frosted glass keeps the inside of the garage private.

Hardware and seals. Galvanized hinges and fasteners, nylon rollers and a full set of seals at the bottom, sides and top round out the door.

Beach-Friendly Choices

Ask about finishes and hardware that stand up to salt air, and keep the bottom seal in good repair to stop blowing sand. If the opener is old, add a new opener to the quote. If just one section is hurt, a panel swap may be enough.

A fresh-water rinse of the door every few months washes off salt before it can settle into seams and hinges. It costs nothing and helps any finish last longer.

Safety First

Removing an old door is the riskiest part of the job, because the springs still hold the force needed to lift it. Never cut or unbolt old springs or the bottom brackets. Sections are heavy and awkward, so they come down one at a time. A balanced new door lets the opener guide it gently rather than haul it.

Repair or Replace?

Replacing the whole door is not the default here. If only one or two sections are damaged and the door runs straight, a repair or a panel swap costs less. Replacement wins when damage is spread across the door, when matching parts are gone or when the same faults keep returning. We can price both so you can compare side by side.

New doors are quoted after measuring, since size, style and insulation drive the price. See the whole price list

A new door is quoted on site after we measure, because the price depends on the size of the opening, the material, insulation and windows. Adding a new opener changes the figure as well. The owner price list covers repair parts such as springs from $150 per spring. You approve the quote before anything is ordered.

Where We Install

We fit new doors in Cardiff-by-the-Sea, Encinitas, Leucadia, Solana Beach and Olivenhain. Coastal owners often ask first about finishes that handle salt air, while inland owners tend to ask about insulation for warm afternoons. For a door that just needs fixing, see door repair. New Door Questions

Is removal of the old door included?

Yes. We take down the old door and hardware safely as part of the job. The old springs are unwound before anything is unbolted, because a loaded spring can injure. The rails and brackets come off next, then the sections. If only part of your door is damaged, look at garage door panel replacement first.

Can my current opener stay?

Sometimes. We check its age, its drive type and whether the safety eyes work, then tell you if it can run the new door. A heavier new door, or an opener that already strains, may call for a new unit. The choices are laid out on our garage door opener installation page.

Which door holds up best near the beach?

We explain finish and hardware options that cope better with salt air and damp. A well-sealed steel or composite door with galvanized hardware and nylon rollers usually needs less upkeep than bare wood. Whatever you choose, rinse it now and then and keep the seals tight. Later tune-ups fall under garage door repair.

Do I need new springs with a new door?

Yes. The springs are sized to the weight of the new door, so the old ones are not reused. A heavier insulated door needs stronger springs than a thin single-layer one. We balance the door after hanging it, so it rests halfway up without drifting. Read more about springs on garage door spring repair.

What should I decide before the measure?

Nothing has to be fixed before we visit. It helps to know which look you like, whether the garage needs insulation and whether you want windows. We measure the opening, headroom and side room, then show what fits. If the old door is jammed in the meantime, emergency garage door repair can secure it.
