Garage door track repair fixes the metal rails the rollers run in, along with the rollers, brackets and hinges that keep the door lined up. You need it when the door scrapes, shakes, leans, or slips out of the rail, and before a small bend turns into a door that falls.
Good track work keeps the door riding straight. Beach sand works into the lower rails, rollers wear flat and brackets work loose. Then the door shakes, scrapes or slips out of the track. Manzanita secures the door, straightens or replaces the rails, sets them plumb and fits new rollers where the old ones are worn.
Signs You Need Track Repair
- Rollers have popped out of the rail, or the door hangs at an angle.
- A gap shows between a roller and its track on one side.
- The door scrapes, grinds or shudders at the same spot on every run.
- A rail has a bend, kink or flat spot, often down near the floor.
- Track brackets wobble, or rusty bolts have backed out of the wall.
- Rollers wobble, have cracked wheels or no longer spin freely.
What Throws a Door Off Its Rails?
- A bumper, bin or bike hits the bottom section.
- Sand and grit build up in the lower track.
- Rollers wear flat or seize.
- A cable breaks and one side drops.
How We Do Garage Door Track Repair
- Make the door safe. We clamp it in place so it cannot slide or drop while we work on the rails.
- Find what pushed it out. A bent rail, a worn roller, a loose bracket and a broken cable each need a different fix, so we check all four.
- Give you the price. The exact figure comes before any work. Track work starts at $150 per door.
- Straighten, replace and align. Bent sections are trued or swapped, the rollers go back in, and both rails are set plumb and the same distance from the door. Worn rollers get replaced as a set.
- Run it and fine-tune. We cycle the door, tighten every bracket, oil the rollers and hinges, and set the opener so it does not fight the door.
Parts and Options
Standard-lift track. The usual layout. The door rises a short way up the wall, then curves onto level rails that hang from the ceiling.
High-lift and vertical-lift track. The upright rails run much higher before the curve, or all the way up. They suit tall garages and keep the ceiling area open.
Low-headroom track. A special rail setup for garages with little room above the opening, where a standard curve will not fit.
Steel or nylon rollers. Bare steel rollers are tough and cheap, but they are loud and rust near the coast. Nylon rollers with sealed bearings run quieter and stand up better to damp air.
Safety
An off-track door can be hanging by one cable with a spring still wound tight. Do not run the opener, do not try to force it back by hand, and keep cars, kids and pets out from under it. If the door is stuck partway open, leave it there rather than pulling it down. Call us and we will secure it before anything else is touched.
Repair or Replace?
A gently bent rail can often be trued in place. A rail that is kinked, torn at a bolt hole or rusted thin should be replaced. When a snapped cable started it, cable replacement goes on the same quote. A badly dented bottom section may need a new panel, and a door with several crushed sections may be better off replaced; new garage door installation explains that path.

What changes the final price: whether a rail can be straightened or must be swapped, whether one side or both are damaged, and what caused the trouble in the first place. A broken cable or a crushed bottom section adds its own repair. High-lift and low-headroom layouts take more parts. You hear the full amount before any work begins.
Track Repair Across Our Service Area
We fix tracks in Cardiff-by-the-Sea, Encinitas, Leucadia, Solana Beach and Olivenhain. In the beach towns, sand and salt wear the lower rails and rollers first; inland, dust and grit from long driveways can do the same. Track work starts from $150 per door, and rollers from $120 per set, on the price list. If the door is hanging right now, see emergency service.
Track Questions
Can I pop the rollers back in myself?
It is risky. The door is heavy and may still be under spring tension. Leave it where it is and call us for emergency garage door repair. Forcing rollers in with pliers or a hammer can bend the rail further or drop the door. We secure it first, then put it back on track, from $150 per door.
Does sand really damage the tracks?
It can. Sand in the lower rail makes rollers catch and wear. Sweeping the floor edge helps. Over time, grit grinds flat spots into the rollers and scores the inside of the rail, and the door starts to shake. Fresh rollers start at $120 per set, and a full garage door repair visit checks the rest of the door too.
What does track repair cost?
From $150 per door for track and off-track work, and from $120 per set for rollers. The exact price depends on whether a rail can be straightened or must be replaced, and on what caused the problem. A snapped cable adds cable repair, from $150 per cable. You hear the full amount before we start.
Why is my door noisy along the rails?
Most rail noise comes from worn rollers, dry hinges or loose track bolts. Steel rollers grind as their bearings rust, while nylon rollers with sealed bearings run quieter. Tightening and lubricating can help for a while, but a door that still bangs may also have a weak spring; spring repair starts at $150 per spring.
Can a bent bottom section knock the door off track?
Yes. When a car or bin hits the bottom section, the end hinges and roller brackets can bend, and the rollers get pushed out of the rail. We put the door back on track and check the section. If it is cracked or folded, panel replacement is quoted on site by door model and color.
